The Fair Work Commission announced a 3.3% increase in pharmacy award minimum pay rates in June 2017.
This increase applies from 1 July 2017.
The new rates of pay are as follows:
As previously reported, the Fair Work Commission’s Penalty Rates Case Decision has resulted in a reduction of the penalty rate for working on Sundays from 1 July. The phasing in of this decision commences on 1 July with a reduction from 200% (225% for causals) of the award minimum rate to 195% (220% for causals) of the award minimum rate. There will be further decreases in penalty rates entitlements over the next few years. Pharmacists must be paid these rates as a minimum, plus all allowances and penalties they are entitled to receive as detailed in the Pharmacy Industry Award.
As part of the Penalty Rates Case the Fair Work Commission has also decided to reduce the penalty for working on public holidays from 250% (275% for causals) to 225% (250% for casuals) from 1 July.
Following on from the agreement by Chemist Warehouse to not reduce penalties for current staff PPA will continue to campaign with pharmacy owners to seek their agreement to not implement this Decision to reduce minimum award penalty entitlements.
We will also continue with our 30% pay increase case to increase award minimum rates of pay to properly reward pharmacists for the important and valuable work they do.
