Personal Protective Equipment Available to Pharmacists

Professional Pharmacists Australia is receiving an increasing number of concerns from members regarding the lack of PPE available to them.

The latest update from the Department of Health provides information on access to PPE for vaccinators, as well as on the vaccination roll-out more broadly - read the full update here.

Although the advice states that all vaccinators in pharmacies can access PPE from the national stockpile, this does not cover other staff in pharmacies.

Pharmacy owners have obligations to provide safe and healthy workplaces and they should be providing staff with PPE. You should not have to pay or provide for this yourself.

Rapid Antigen Test Shortage

PPA continues to speak up for pharmacists struggling with the intense workload created by an inadequate supply of rapid antigen tests.

“The feedback we’re getting from our members is that they’re exhausted and that many of them can no longer cope with what’s being asked of them.”

PPA is calling on the Morrison government to make RATs free and have them distributed in state testing hubs, other community settings and mailed to homes.
